Splurge

Although most people fill their gardens and planters with beautiful pops of colour, I'm too cheap to spend money on annuals. Since I've been feeling under the weather, I decided to splurge on 1 hanging basket since these beautiful red flowers spoke to me.

Before

After

Cost: $15 I bought the planter for $1 at a garage sale and the annuals cost me $14. They are a beautiful addition to the backyard.
Description: I spray painted the terracotta trim on this square planter. I'm hoping that the paint doesn't chip off. I'm starting to notice that on some of my projects from last year.

Butterflies

I am more of a matchy matchy kind of person and I typically wear black and shades of grey. I've been collecting different things for the garden and have finally decided on a theme. I have mushrooms, birdhouses and butterflies. I've been busy painting everything black, white and red.

Garage Sale Finds

I got quite a haul at a garage sale recently. I've therefore been busy refinishing some of the pieces I found to make them mine. I started with the easy pieces first since some of the stuff I got is going to take me A LOT of elbow grease.

 Before
After

Cost: $1 I got the metal dish for free and got the apples for $1.
Description: I spray painted the dish black to match the metal on our coffee tables and the burgandy apples match our couch and accent wall.

Gazebo Birdhouse

I am so proud of myself. I picked up this little gazebo birdhouse at a garage sale last weekend and I've already upcycled it...it didn't take the usual 2 years of sitting in the shed for me to get around to re-doing it!

Garage Sale Find

   Before

After

 Cost: Free
Description: I had to repaint the mats because they got damaged in the rain. The frames got a few coats of paint so they would match the other things hanging on the wall and I watered down some acrylic paint to do the picture mats since they were water damaged. Was worth the work since they look great in my room!

Park Bench

I bought this park bench almost a decade ago. It's had one make over already where it got painted and the legs resprayed. I leave it outside all year whic his why it was in need of a 2nd makeover. Luckily, it just needed to be sanded and not stripped. The old paint came right off with a palm sander. I had dismantled it and left it in the garage and got yelled at for starting another project and not finish it it. Thanks to my Dad who was visiting and likes to keep busy, he stained it for me while I gave all the metal a coat of new paint. I'm sure with the stain, it will be easier to touch up in the future since it won't flake off. I'm thinking that this winter, I will find a place for it in the shed.
